Left behind

Abandoned

Still alive

These are spaces and objects that time has moved past, yet they hold a presence of their own.

They reveal traces of former use, shapes and textures shaped by abandonment, and an unexpected beauty in what remains. Each scene invites reflection on memory, decay, and the passage of time.

Grocery Store

Tsimandria, Limnos

Once a small hub of daily life in Tsimandria village.

“Good morning, Mr. Panagiotis.”

“Hello, Mrs. Maria.”

“Do you have eggs?”

“Fresh from today!”

“Give me six. And a few of the large olives.”

“Shall I add some pickles too?”

The shop now stands quietly, a trace of the everyday exchanges and small routines that once filled it. The island is changing, supermarkets arriving and many small stores disappearing, yet this place still carries the memory of life.

The Tailor of Atsiki

Atsiki, Lemnos

How many suits were sewn here? How many grooms were dressed? How many coffees on the sidewalk, ouzo shared, or games of backgammon played?

Suitcases were packed for Australia, America, Africa — young lives leaving home in search of new beginnings, carrying hopes, dreams, and the weight of goodbye. No one was left to order a suit, and the tailor left too.

The shop now stands quiet, a place left behind, holding the memory of those who passed through it. Even in stillness, it speaks of departure, daily routines, and the rhythms of another time.
